Dr. Carlota Batres
Dr. Carlota Batres is originally from El Salvador and came to the United States for her bachelor’s degree. She graduated from Wellesley College with a double major in psychology and economics (with study abroad at Oxford University and the London School of Economics). She then went on to work on the trading floors of Lehman Brothers in both New York and London and later on the trading floor of Fidelity Investments in Boston.
She then left finance to pursue a master’s degree in evolutionary and comparative psychology and then completed her PhD in psychology at the University of St Andrews. There, she investigated the science behind what it is that we find attractive as well as the effects that facial masculinity, height, age, and adiposity have on each other and on judgments of dominance.
Her postdoc was then funded by CHANEL and focused on how makeup influences facial perceptions and social outcomes. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Franklin & Marshall College and the Director of the Preferences Lab.
